Aged Care quality transparency for consumers

23 Sep 2022
In response to recommendations coming out of the Royal Commission, Aged care providers will need to publish Quality of Care Indicators

From April 2023, Aged Care Providers will be required to collect and submit for publication, key indicators of quality in their facility.  This is in line with recommendations arising from the 2018/19 Royal Commission into Aged Care.
These six indicators will cover the following:

  • Activities of daily living – Percentage of care recipients who experienced a decline in activities of daily living
  • Incontinence care – Percentage of care recipients who experienced incontinence associated dermatitis
  • Hospitalisation – Percentage of care recipients who had one or more emergency department presentations
  • Workforce – Percentage of staff turnover
  • Consumer experience – Percentage of care recipients who report ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ experience of the service
  • Quality of life – Percentage of care recipients who report ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ quality of life.

This information must be collected from 1st April and will be published on the My Aged Care portal.  Older Australians and their families will be able to access this information to assist in making choices around Aged Care

Of course, transparency like this is a great step forward but the financial complexities around Aged Care remain.  Don’t try and do it alone, give Zenith aged care a call on 02 9525 7977 and access the experience that comes from more than 1,600 satisfied clients over the past 10 years alone.
